Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), asthma (unless mild and well-managed)
History of seizures or epilepsy
Recent major surgery or injury
Glaucoma or detached retina

Mental Health & Neurological Conditions
Bipolar disorder or schizophrenia (unless stabilized and cleared by a professional)
Severe PTSD or complex trauma (may require a slower, titrated approach)
History of psychosis or dissociation
Unmedicated or unstable anxiety or panic disorders (can be overstimulating)
Pregnancy
Contraindicated in pregnancy, especially in the first and third trimesters, due to the risk of:
Hypoxia
Overstimulation
Physical exertion triggering contractions
Some gentle breath practices may be okay under guidance, but intense breathwork should be avoided.
Other Situations to Consider
Use of psychiatric or blood pressure medications (may alter breath or emotional response)
Recent emotional crisis or grief (may overwhelm the nervous system)
Active substance use or withdrawal
Severe migraines (breathwork can trigger them)
Use of any psychoactive substance (Cannabis, Psylocibin, MDMA, etc.)
General Rule
If in doubt, consult a qualified healthcare provider before participating. Breathwork is a powerful tool and can bring up intense emotional and physical responses.
If you’re not sure if these apply to you, please hold off from participating in a Two-Stage Breathwork session and email us for clarification.
